A day in Yala National Park

This excursion offers a responsible introduction to Sri Lanka’s wildlife without staged encounters or promises of a particular sighting. After an early transfer from the coast, guests change to a safari jeep for the route available inside the park that day.

How the safari works

A local jeep driver who knows the park roads leads the drive. Visitors should keep noise low, follow park rules and never try to attract or feed wildlife.

Landscapes and habitats

Dry forest, scrub, open ground and waterholes create varied habitats. Observing these landscapes is an important part of the experience even when rarer animals remain out of sight.

Wildlife observation

Yala is home to elephants, leopards, deer, buffalo, crocodiles and many bird species, but it is a wild ecosystem. No responsible operator can guarantee an elephant, leopard or any other animal. Sightings depend on weather, season, time of day and natural behaviour.

What to bring

Bring your passport, water, a hat, sun protection and clothing that protects against dust. Binoculars are useful for observing birds and distant animals. Jeep tracks are uneven, so please mention young children, pregnancy or health restrictions before booking.

The current programme includes the road transfer, jeep organisation and Russian-speaking support. Park admission and fees are separate unless confirmed otherwise; meals and personal expenses are also excluded.
